New Zealander Corrie Keith Robinson stole the show at VICTOR Oceania Para Badminton Championships 2023 by winning three gold medals at his first international tournament in three years.
Robinson, whose competitive sabbatical started after he bagged two titles at the continental meet in 2020, picked up SL3-SL4 men’s singles and doubles as well as SL3-SU5 mixed doubles titles in the Perth event to show he still has what it takes to play at the top level.
In the singles final, Robinson defeated his SL3-SL4 men’s doubles gold-winning partner Wojtek Czyz 21-9 21-8. Robinson’s mixed doubles title came alongside Carrie Joanne Wilson – the duo seeing off Australians Lachlan Boulton/Zashka Gunson 21-11 21-13 in 20 minutes.
Other players to win at least two gold in the main events were Australian Olympian Caitlin Dransfield (SL4-SU5 women’s singles, SL3-SU5 women’s doubles), her compatriots Qambar Ali Akhteyari (WH1-WH2 men’s singles and doubles) and Lochan Cowper (WH1-WH2 men’s doubles and mixed doubles) and Kiwi Wilson (SL3-SU5 women’s and mixed doubles).
