Women’s singles wheelchair WH1 top seed Sarina Satomi of Japan barely broke a sweat these past days to make it out group stage of the HULIC DAIHATSU BWF Para Badminton World Championships 2022.
Satomi and long-time doubles partner Yuma Yamazaki also eased into the last eight of the WH1-WH2 event two dominant wins.
“I’ve consciously been thinking about my game and trying to minimize any errors as much as possible,” Satomi said. “Not missing serves, and in the rallies, working on my checks, rushes, halts, and so on.”
Switzerland’s Cynthia Mathez, her great rival and the second seed here, had a comfortable 21-4 21-4 win over Brazil’s Auricelia Nunes Evangelista to set up a quarterfinals clash with Man-Kei To of Belgium.
Japan’s other big medal hope in the wheelchair category, world No.1 and Paralympic champion Daiki Kajiwara in WH2, cruised into the quarterfinals with a 21-9 21-12 victory over Jaime Aranguiz of Chile.
However, he couldn’t repeat the same success in the men’s doubles, where he and partner Hiroshi Murayama lost twice on the same day to two Korean pairs to exit the competition.

The men’s short stature SH6 category produced the match of the evening with the South Korean/Thailand pair of Lee Daesung and Natthapong Meechai overcoming their Hong Kong China opponents and top seeds Chun Man Kai/Wong Chun Yim in a 88-minute thriller.
Daesung/Natthapong Meechai prevailed 17-21, 21-17, 21-16 taking them through to the semifinals.
The pair only began playing together in Dubai earlier this year where they combined to win gold, and they have the same target firmly in sight here as well.
“Since there are no other SH6 players from South Korea, my only opportunity in doubles is to team up with players from other countries,” Daesung said. “Communication may be difficult, but I think I get along really well with Meechai.”
Three Indians moved into the quarterfinals of the women’s singles SL3 event, with defending champion Manasi Girishchandra Joshi, former winner Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar and the upcoming Mandeep Kaur all moving into the last eight.
