In the men’s singles second round, Turkey’s Emre Lale fought his way to a win against Swtizerland’s Christian Kirchmayr in a rollercoaster of a match. Lale blew a 19-16 lead in the opening game and the pattern nearly repeated in the second, with Kirchmayr saving five game points. Lale however converted his sixth game point to make it a game apiece and won the third game comfortably, 19-21 21-19 21-15.
Fifth seed Neslihan Yigit, also of Turkey, had easy passage into the third round, beating Czech Republic’s Teresa Svabikova 21-13 21-13.
